How to connect an Android device

To send scanner and other data to our cloud platform, you need to connect your Android devices to Insight Webportal.

Prerequisite: Insight Webportal account activated.

  1. Log in to Insight Webportal on your desktop.
  2. Under Manage, select Connectivity.
  3. At the top of the page, click Connect Device.

  4. Select Insight Mobile (Android) and click Next.
  5. In the Name section, click Add Device.
  6. Type in the Station Name, Use Case, and Device Name, and click Next. ConnectDevice2
    The Provision slide panel displays a QR code.
  7. Open Insight Mobile on your Android device and switch to Supervisor View.
  8. Tap Insight Registration.
  9. Tap SCAN QR-CODE.
  10. Scan the QR code on your desktop screen with your Android device and click Done.
    Insight Mobile registers the Android device on Insight Webportal.

 
You can also connect your Android device by downloading the provisioning file from Insight Webportal:

  1. Log in to Insight Webportal on your desktop.
  2. Under Manage, select Connectivity.
  3. At the top of the page, click Connect Device.
    A modal Choose your Device window displays.
  4. Select Insight Mobile (Android) and click Next.
  5. In the Name section, click Add Device.
  6. Type in the Station Name, Use Case, and Device Name.
  7. Click Next.
    The Provision section displays.
  8. Click Download.
    The provisioned .zip file downloads.
  9. Click Done.
  10. Extract the .zip file and upload the provisioning file to your Android device.

How to edit a Connectivity Device

You can edit the device's Station Name, Device Name, and Use Case in the Connectivity Device List by clicking the pencil icon next to the desired device.

How to download the provisioning file from the list

If you click Done before downloading the provisioning file, you can still download the provisioning file by selecting your device from the Connectivity Device List and clicking the Registration File button.

If you select multiple devices, the downloaded .zip file will contain a provisioning file for every device selected.

Connection status

There are three connection statuses:

  1. Not Registered - The Insight Mobile app is not registered on Insight Webportal and cannot send data.
  2. Not Connected - The Insight Mobile app is registered on Insight Webportal, but not actively sending data.
  3. Connected - The Insight Mobile app is actively connected to Insight Webportal and sending data.

How to verify the connection status

There are three ways to make sure your Android device is connected to Insight Webportal:

  1. In Insight Mobile:
    a) Connect your scanner.
    b) On the Device homepage, scroll down to Insight Registration.
    c) At the bottom of Insight Registration, the Connection Status displays.

  2. On Insight Webportal:
    a) Under Manage, select Connectivity.
    The list of all registered devices displays.
    b) If registered, your device displays in the list with its Station Name, Usecase, Device Name, Unique ID, Device model, Device Type, and Version.

  3. On Insight Webportal:
    a) Connect your scanner to Insight Mobile.
    b) Scan a barcode.
    c) Open Insight Webportal.
    d) Under Manage, select Scanners.
    The list of all connected scanners displays.
    e) If connected properly, your scanner displays in the list with its Device model, Serial Number, Firmware Version, Last Gateway, Last Scan time, and Battery percentage.

Use the Understand section of Insight Webportal to view live scan data, and the Manage section to track information on connected devices.

Note: Make sure that your device's network connectivity is stable when trying to register it on Insight Webportal, or when sending data after the registration.
